What's the current status for this? Echoing Sven that visibility into the Postgres version availability schedule is crucial for planning our own technical roadmap. If Render's release schedule is slower or more unpredictable than other providers (as it currently seems) that is a tradeoff we need to consider.
Some benchmarks from other managed Postgres providers:
- Amazon RDS added support Nov 14 2024
- Azure added Postgres 17 to public preview September 2024
- Google Cloud released support Oct 22 2024
- Aiven support November 2024 (although usually right after release)
- Neon Sep 26 2024

Postgres major releases always drop once per year in fall. It would be nice to have a rule of thumb published in the Render docs as to within what time frame Render plans to adopt the new versions. Besides performance, upcoming releases also bring important fundamental improvements such as UUIDv7 which can be used as globally safe primary keys. Thanks a lot for some clarifying words on the Postgres roadmap of Render!

We are also waiting for this to unlock some relevant performance improvements!

I would love this! This is currently the only blocker from me bringing my DB into Render.
