As of April 4, 2024, bun is now available in our native runtime environments.
Currently, the default version of Bun is v1.1.0. To define your own version check out https://docs.render.com/bun-version

robdimarco Awesome to see this, thank you! Does this mean
bun
is only preinstalled, so it's something that can be used to run build commands, or is there full bun support as a native runtime? For example, I would like to be able to deploy a web
blueprint with the runtime
set to bun
. Is that possible? Or is the docker workaround still required for that?r
robdimarco
Sebastian Sandqvist: It is not a full runtime, but is installed on other native runtimes. Here is an example blueprint using
bun
for both static and node services https://github.com/robdimarco-render/example-bun-app/blob/main/render.yamlS

robdimarco Ah, I misunderstood that we can simply use
bun
in the startCommand
now. Thanks!J

We have a static site that installs dependencies and builds using bun and would love to use it here without having to move to a different package manager.

Please consider supporting it. Bun just released their version 1.1 and we are eagerly waiting to use it!

Since Bun released its stable version since last septembre, I think it's time to support Bun natively, without docker

While you can currently use Bun via docker to run an application, there's currently no way I can find to use bun for installing dependencies and running build scripts. So, if render added full support for Bun that would be amazing.

I had intended to put my new client on Render but I've been using Bun and when I went to install it discovered that I'd need to do a docker pipeline in order to support it. I ended up deleting the app and using a provider that already supports bun (vercel).
It's annoying because I'd rather use render.com

I'd be a big fan of this! I know it's possible to dockerize apps, but that's kind of a pain
